Why Ahimsa
A Compassionate Path to Wholeness
The Heart of Ahimsa
Ahimsa is the yogic principle of non-harming—a practice of meeting ourselves and others with compassion, care, and respect.
I chose the name Ahimsa Health because it reflects what I believe about healing: meaningful change does not come from fighting against ourselves. It can begin when we create enough safety and compassion to reconnect with who we are beneath the experiences that have shaped us.
My Connection to This Work
My connection to this work is not only professional—it is personal.
I learned early in life how quickly our sense of safety and home can change. As a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, I experienced firsthand how overwhelming experiences can shape our relationship with safety, uncertainty, and resilience.
My own life has also included loss, significant change, and choosing sobriety. These experiences have shaped the way I understand healing—not as a perfectly linear process, but as an ongoing practice of reconnecting with ourselves.
A space to reconnect. A space to heal.
A space to come home to you.
Coming Home to You
For me, “coming home to you” means reconnecting with the parts of yourself that may have become harder to hear through trauma, stress, survival, or change.

Meet Michelle

I created Ahimsa Health from both professional training and a deeply personal understanding of resilience. My own life has included experiences that changed the way I understand healing—including surviving Hurricane Katrina, navigating struggles with eating and body image, and walking my own path of recovery and sobriety. Those experiences have shaped my belief that healing is not simply about managing symptoms, but about reconnecting with yourself, rebuilding trust with your mind and body, and creating a life that feels meaningful and authentic.
Professionally, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board-Certified Music Therapist, and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200). I have completed EMDR Basic Training and am currently working toward EMDR certification. I also have additional training in ART, Brainspotting, MBSR, Reiki, and trauma-informed mind-body practices, and I am currently completing advanced training in the Anchored Relational Approach for complex trauma, dissociation, and PTSD.
My work brings these backgrounds together to help people process experiences that still feel stuck while building greater connection with the body and nervous system. I approach healing through both psychological and body-based perspectives, recognizing that our experiences can live not only in our thoughts and emotions, but also in the ways our bodies respond, protect, and adapt.
At the heart of my work is the belief that healing is not about becoming someone different—it is about finding your way back to yourself.
